Dennis Jerome Petty

Mr. Dennis Jerome Petty, 55, of 2242 Emerald Mine Rd, Shelby, NC departed this life on Monday, May 20, 2013 at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center.  He was born on October 4, 1957 in Cherokee County, SC to the late James and Mary Jordan Petty.

Dennis graduated from Gaffney High School and attended Spartanburg Technical College.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served his country for four years.  After the Army, he eventually relocated back to Gaffney.  His employment included working for Reid Rico in Gaffney and Copeland Industries and Curtis Wright in Shelby where he was employed until his health declined.

Dennis was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. He was known for his sense of humor and he loved children and fishing. 

On October 21, 1989, he married his wife, Patricia and they remained united 23 years until his death.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Petty and two brothers, Thomas Glen Petty and James Petty, Jr.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Patricia Jones Petty; two step-sons, Timothy Jones (Marsha) and Jonathan Benjamin (Gloria) both of Shelby; a grandson whom he raised, Devante Stevenson of the home; three brothers, Robert Petty (Dorothy), Michael Petty (Kathy) and Charles Petty; two sisters, Mary Tate (Robert) and Harriett P. Byrd all of Gaffney; thirteen additional grandchildren; one great-grandchildren; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Willie and Elizabeth Jones of Shelby; sisters-in-law, Mary Petty of Nyack, NY, Grace Briscoe, Ella Mae Hardin(Sherwood), Janice Bridges (Floyd) , Linda Hush all of Shelby and  Betty Raper of Gaffney; brothers-in-law, Walter Jones (Ann), Johnny Jones (Lisa), Percy Tate (Elizabeth), Jack Tate all of Shelby and Willie Jones, Jr. of Bowie MD; a special lady who was like a mother to him, Evelyn Mullis of Gaffney; a special friend, Brent Corry of TX and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 4:00 PM at Shiloh Baptist Church with Rev. Danté Murphy officiating.  Burial will take place at Sunset Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 3:30 until 4:00 PM at the church on Saturday.  Condolences can be expressed online at www.enloes.net.  Enloe Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
