Diana Kurtz Shaw

Diana Kurtz Shaw of Shelby, formerly of Cherryville, passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 while surrounded by her loving family. Born on April 28, 1945 in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of the late Ben and Marion Kurtz.

Diana grew up in New York, California, Scotland, and France before living in Hawaii where she would meet and marry her husband of forty-six years, Don Shaw. She began her teaching career at the prestigious Punahou Academy in Honolulu, Hawaii and later taught for the Gaston County School System in Cherryville, where she retired after twenty-two years.

She was a member of Cherryville First Presbyterian Church and was a devoted and beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-mother, Naomi Kurtz, and brother, Robert Kurtz.

Diana is survived by her husband Don; daughter Kelly Shaw Rosengrant and husband Jim of Boiling Springs, South Carolina; son Curt Shaw and wife Lisa of Charlotte, North Carolina; two grandsons, Jimmy Rosengrant and Ethan Shaw; granddaughter, Emma Shaw; step-brother, Martin Schwartz; step-sister, Susan Schwartz; and many nieces and nephews.

A service to celebrate the life of Diana Shaw will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, February 15, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church, 107 West Academy Street, Cherryville, North Carolina, 28201. Visitation will follow in the church fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Diana Shaw Memorial Scholarship Fund, 2932 Valencia Terrace, Charlotte, NC 28210 or Local Wells Fargo Bank. This scholarship fund has been created to award graduating seniors from Cherryville Senior High School who share in Diana's dedication and commitment to education.
