Diane Short Lackey age 63, died Saturday December 20, 2013 at Caromont Medical Center  in Gastonia. Born on April 29, 1950 in Cleveland County, she was the daughter of Virginia Patterson Short  of Cherryville and the late Thomas Alexander Short. Diane was a lifetime member of Faith Baptist Church. She worked as a hostess for Firestone Grill and Captain’s Cap, both in Gastonia.  Diane loved and lived for her church, grandchildren, and family.

Diane is survived by her husband of 18 years, Ed Lackey; a son, Darrell Butler and fiancée Jessica Hall of Shelby; three sisters, Carolyn Williams of Gainesville Ga,, Brenda Kay Hannon and husband Larry of Shelby, Cathy Darlene Deaton of Cherryville; a brother, George Short of Shelby; five grandchildren, Tyler Burnett, T. J. Butler, Tiffany Butler, Shyanne Stidham, and Kendal Hutchinson; a great granddaughter, Alivia Gullatte;  mother-in-law, Duffie Lackey of Clover SC; and faithful companion, “Pepper”

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at 2:00pm in the chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory with Dr. Barry Goodman officiating. The family will receive friends an hour before the service from 1:00pm until 2:00pm,  and other times at the home of Darrell Butler, 2132 Ellis Road, Shelby.
