Donald was born August 31, 1949 in Rutherford County, NC to the late James Winslow Conner and Thelma Mitchell Conner. He worked in construction as a sheet metal mechanic most of his life. He recently had worked for Stover Mechanical. He loved music and played for the Conner’s Brothers Band.  He attended Tri-City Baptist Church.

     Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Mary Alice Conner; one son, James Conner of Caroleen; two step-daughters, Carolyn Michelle Sellers of Mooresboro and Marcy Dawn Vickers of Henrietta; one step-son, Gregory Todd Vickers and wife, Tosha of Shelby; two brothers, Johnnie Conner, Sr. and wife, Ruth of Forest City and Jimmy Conner and wife, Patty of Caroleen; one half-sister, Cynthia Alexander and husband, Joe of Forest City; two half-brothers, Ronald Conner and Teddy Conner both of Forest City. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

     A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 17, 2011 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Bart Cooper officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice of Rutherford County, PO Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043.
