Donald “Don” Paul Wilson

Donald “Don” Paul Wilson, 74, passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2013 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.  A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Paul and Isabel Williams Wilson.  He was also preceded in death by his brother Claude Wilson.  Don retired from the Department of Transportation as a location supervisor.  While working with DOT, Don started Wilson Engineering and Surveying and continued to work with it after his DOT retirement.  Don was a member of First Baptist Church where he worked actively every Friday with the Feed the Hungry program.  He was a Cub Scout Master for Pack 101 and treasurer for N.C. Society of Surveyors.  He sponsored and coached Wilson Softball Women’s team and for the last 20 years he coached the Girls Fast Pitch Team through the Shelby City Park.  He most recently coached the Ultra Fast Pitch Girls Softball with Ritchie Canipe.  Don was also a member of Cleveland County Sheriff’s Reserve.  He loved stamp collecting, coin collecting, horseback riding, crossword puzzles and mind boggling games.  He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Don is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Harriett Keever Wilson; son, Don Wilson II and fiancé Denisa Lawrence of Gastonia; daughter, Judith Wilson Freeman and husband Terry of Earl; brother, Harry Wilson and wife Hallie of Zebulon, NC; grandchildren, Steaphan Paul Wilson, Gage Ethan Freeman; great grandson, Zachary Paul Wilson.

A celebration of life service will be held at 4:00pm on Thursday, June 13, 2013 in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church.  A gathering of friends will follow the service.  Rev. Tony Tench will be officiating.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:30pm on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at Cecil M Burton Funeral Home and Crematory.  At other times the family will be at the home of Judith and Terry Freeman in Earl.
