Donald William Kester, 78, of 209 Suncrest Road, Cherryville, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 6, 2014 at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. He was born January 23, 1936 in Gaston County, son of the late Lawrence Hunter and Alice Liza Carpenter Kester.
He was a retired truck driver from Carolina Freight Carriers where he worked for 40 years. He was a faithful, lifelong member of Anthony Grove Baptist Church and a member of the American Legion, Post 100.
He is survived by one son, Tommy Kester; one daughter, Donna Kester; his five brothers, Charles, Larry, Bob, Kenneth, and Jim Kester; one sister, Doris Kester Freeman; and his dog, Emily, who was his beloved and trusted companion.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Rachel Hood Kester.
A celebration of his life will be held at Anthony Grove Baptist Church on Friday, July 11, 2014 at 3:00 PM. Visitation will be at the church, prior to the service, from 1:30 to 2:45. He will be laid to rest next to his wife at City Memorial Cemetery, Cherryville, NC. Dr. Dennis Bean and Rev. Ken Faulkenbury will officiate the funeral and burial service.
