Doris Ethel Brinkley Holloman, 92, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016, at home after a long illness.
A Durham, North Carolina native, she was born to the late Wiley and Daisy Brinkley. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Milton C. Holloman, the owner of Shelby Supply Company and three brothers, James Brinkley, Adrian Brinkley, and Donald Brinkley.
Doris is survived by two daughters, Brenda Page of Shelby and Kathy Runk and her husband James Runk of Swansea, Illinois. She also leaves behind three grandchildren, Michelle Runk and her husband Adam Bezinovich of Pingree Grove, Illinois, James Page and his wife Ashley of Shelby, and Dustin Page of Shelby, and two great-grandchildren, Makayla and Bentley Page.
Doris grew up in the Durham area and worked many years for the former Southern Bell Telephone Company as a switchboard operator supervisor. She moved to Shelby in 1964 with her husband with whom she shared a wonderful life for 62 years. Milton and her family were truly the greatest joys in her life.
A member of First Baptist Church of Shelby for over 50 years, Doris was active in the Women's Mission Union and the Faith Sunday School Class. She loved sewing, made beautiful quilts, and enjoyed watching British comedies on public television. Doris will be remembered as a faithful friend, caring mother, grand-mother, and great-grand mother, and loving wife.
Visitation will be Friday, February 5, 2016 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., at the Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, 106 Cherryville Rd, Shelby, NC.
