Doris Rippy Cloninger
Doris Rippy Cloninger, 96, 770 Holly Ridge Road, Blacksburg, SC, went home to be with Lord March 2, 2016, at home. Born in Cherokee County, SC, she was the wife of the late Henry Carlisle Cloninger, Sr. and a daughter of the late Eula E. and Victoria Byers Rippy. She was a 1937 graduate of Blacksburg High School and a graduate of Columbia Business College. During WWII, she worked in the Glenn L. Martin Aircraft Factory in Baltimore, MD, as a riveter on US Navy Seaplanes. She was also employed by several accountants in her lifetime. She was a member of Mt. Paran Baptist Church. She loved to make christmas decorations and during her lifetime, she loved to teach others how to swim.
Left to cherish her memory is her son, Henry Carlisle Cloninger, Jr., of Gastonia, NC; her grandson, Greg Pounders, of Lakeland, FL; and two sisters, Reba Hoopaugh of Charlotte, NC, and Norma McDaniel of Shelby, NC. In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Jean Pounders; two brothers, Eldon Rippy and Allen Rippy; and two sisters, Oleta Camp and Lela Pennington.
The family will receive friends Friday, March 4, 2016, from 1 - 2:00 PM, at Mt. Paran Baptist Church. A Celebration Of Life Service will begin at 2:00 PM, with Rev. Lee Coyle officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. At other times, they will be at the home.
Men of the church will serve as pallbearers as well as her nephew, Gordon McDowell.
The family wishes to express a special thank-you to Hospice Compassus for their care and love during this time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Paran Baptist Church, 105 Mt. Paran Road, Blacksburg, SC, 29702, or to the church or charity onf your choice.
