Dorothy (Dot) Guyton Burgess

Mooresboro -- Dorothy (Dot) Guyton Burgess, 87, of 2717 College Farm Road, passed away Tuesday, January 9th, 2018, at Testa Family Hospice.

Born in Gaffney, she was the widow of Horace Burgess and the daughter of the late Aaron and Alice Gordon Guyton. Mrs. Burgess retired from textiles and was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church of Mooresboro, NC.

Surviving Mrs. Burgess are two sons, Claude Burgess and special friend, Emily Bradley, of Spartanburg and Todd Burgess and fiance, Nancy Martin, of the home; one daughter, Martha Byars, and husband, Arnold, of Shelby; two brothers, Henry Guyton and J.R. Guyton; four sisters, Bonnie Martin, Betty Blanton, Nancy Owens, and Sally Guyton; and seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Burgess was preceded in death by a son, Jack Burgess; a grandson, Michael Burgess; and three sisters, Altie Horton, Louise Phillips, and Beulah Hughey.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 12th, 2018, from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Gordon Mortuary. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 13th, 2018 at 2:00 pm in the Gordon Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Vernon Craig and Rev. Kevin Hamrick officiating. Interment will follow at Clingman Memorial Gardens. Brad Burgess, Chad Burgess, TC Burgess, Roy Bolton, Tommy Hughey, and Brian Knoblett will serve as pallbearers.

The family will be at the residence.
