Edward Eugene Silver, age 86, died at home on Friday, November 15, 2013. Born March 29, 1927 in Shelby N.C., he settled in later life in Hickory. He served in the Navy as a pharmacist's mate during WWII. He worked as a chemist in the textile industry for most of his professional career. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Julia Owen Silver, his sister, Mary Margaret Peterson, his aunts, Marie and Maude (Silver), his daughters Julia Fleming and husband David, Laura Pounds and husband Gregory, his son Charles (Chuck) Silver and wife Jean, 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and loving caregivers, Joel and Gladys Ledbetter, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A memorial service will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Catawba Regional Hospice, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton NC 28658,  where Lisa and others assisted in his compassionate care ensuring quality and comfort until the end of his life.
