Edward Hoyle Willis
Mr. Edward Hoyle Willis, 85, of Shelby, NC passed away Friday, December 17, 2010. Services were held at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be private.
Mr. Willis served our country in the U.S. Army where he fought in World War II, serving 2-1/2 years with the 86th Infantry Division in Europe and the Philippines. He attained the rank of Corporal and was decorated with the American Theatre Service Medal; EAME Service Medal with one bronze service star; and the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob Hoyle Willis and Cordie Peeler Willis; 1 brother, Ira Willis; and 2 sisters, Mary W. Crowe and Ora Mae W. Sweatmon.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Margaret Dover Willis; 2 sons, Steven Willis and wife Patricia of Winston-Salem and Dale Wilis and wife Connie of Shelby; 3 grandchildren; 1 brother, J.C. Willis and wife Elsie of Belwood; a sister-in-law, Ethel Willis of Casar; and several loving nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150; or to: Alzheimer’s Association, Western Carolina Chapter, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215-3220; or to the organization of the donor’s choice.
