Elaine Freeman Hopper Hoskins

Mrs. Elaine Freeman Hopper Hoskins, 78, of 1031 Fallston Rd. Shelby, NC departed this life on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Wendover Hospice in Shelby. She was born on April 4, 1936 in Cleveland County, NC to the late Elijah and Blossom Logan Freeman.

Elaine was a graduate of Cleveland High School. She furthered her education by first receiving her cosmetology license from Bands Beauty College. She worked several years as a hair stylist before deciding to become a nurse. She then enrolled in nursing school at Cleveland Technical College earning an associate's degree. She was employed with Cleveland Memorial Hospital as a L.P.N. for over twenty years.

Elaine was a longtime member of Durham United Methodist Church where over the years she sang with and was a former president of the choir, former president of the Pastor's Parrish Committee and a member of the Hospitality Committee. She was a very active member until her health declined.

Elaine enjoyed gardening and working with her beautiful flowers. She also enjoyed shopping and traveling especially taking cruises. She loved music and singing. In addition, she was a very creative person who loved to decorate and loved hosting and organizing events.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, David Hopper; her second husband, Ayfield Hoskins, Sr.; her brothers, W.D. Freeman, Charles Freeman, Nevins Freeman and Harrison Freeman; her sisters, Roberta F. Gleaves, Louise F. Hamrick and Betty F. Howell and her son-in-law, Atty. Robert A. Maxwell.

Left to cherish her memory, her daughter, Gloria Maxwell of Loganville, GA; two sisters, Margaret Crenshaw and Elsie F. McDowell both of Shelby; her granddaughter, Keisha Sherman (Stacey) of Duluth, GA; two great-grandchildren, Kelsey Sherman and Elijah Sherman; her best friends forever (bff's), Elsie, "Gheri", Dora and Becky and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Durham United Methodist Church with Pastor Dale Sneed officiating.
