Elizabeth Anne Royster Taylor

Elizabeth Anne Royster Taylor, age 89 died Tuesday June 8, 2016 at Carolinas Health Care Cleveland. Born in Cleveland County on January 30, 1929 she was the daughter of the late David Wyett and Margaret Hamrick McMurry Royster. Anne was a member of Shelby Presbyterian Church. She attended Peace College and transferred to University North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi, and obtained her Bachelor degree in Art and Archaeology. Anne was a member of the Junior Charity League of Shelby where she was in the First Debutante Ball in 1946. She was also presented in the North Carolina State Terpsicorean Ball and the a charter member of the Cotillion dance club. She was a lifelong member of the 20th Century Book Club. She was a member of the Wednesday Lunch Bridge Club for over 60 years. Anne served on the Board of Advisors at Gardner Webb University. She was an active member of Charlotte City Club, Blowing Rock Country Club and Cleveland Country Club. A talented amateur artist and much of her work is displayed in her Blowing Rock home. Devoted wife and loving mother who had a kind word to everyone she met.

In addition to her parents, Anne is preceded in death by her brother, David Wyett Royster Jr.

Anne is survived by her husband for 64 years, James Brock Taylor Jr.; a son, James "Brock" Taylor III and wife Sally of Shelby; three daughters, Elizabeth "Betsy Knauf and husband Tom of Salisbury, Alice Taylor Harrill and husband Keith of Bostic, and Margaret Taylor Kendrick and husband Steve of Marietta Ga.; seven grandchildren, Taylor Knauf and wife Meribeth, Anne Knauf, Murphy Taylor, James Brock "Jake" Taylor IV, Riley Taylor, James Kendrick, and Elizabeth Kendrick; two great grandchildren, Lilly Anne Knauf and Joseph Taylor Knauf; and first cousin, Sara Moore of Shelby.

Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, June 10, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Shelby Presbyterian Church with Dr. Luke Harkey officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall. Burial will follow, after the visitation, at Sunset Cemetery.
