Elizabeth Anthony Gant McDaniel

Elizabeth Anthony Gant McDaniel, 62, passed away on Friday, February 13, 2015 after a brief illness. Even though she died young, she lived a life filled with many friendships and loving family. Beth was born in Shelby and spent most of her life in the community she loved. She was the daughter of Nancy Elam Anthony Morgan, and the late Oliver Stanhope Anthony Jr. and is also preceded in death by her stepfather Doctor James Percy Morgan. Beth seemed to know everyone in Shelby and valued her friendships with people from all walks of life. Always a smile on her face and a kindhearted spirit, she saw the goodness in everyone she met. Beth is remembered for her love of music, the beach, her many, many friends and having the loudest laugh in the room! A 1971 graduate of Shelby High School, Beth attended Wingate University and UNC Charlotte where she studied music. During the summer of 1970, Beth was a member of the "Good News Singers of America" choral ensemble that toured Europe and the Soviet Union. From this experience, friendships were made that she cherished for the rest of her life. While in college, Beth also toured with the "Sounds of America" performing in venues throughout the US. Beth and her husband Mike met in 1996 at SOS in North Myrtle Beach and shared in their love of Beach Music. They were members of many Shag Clubs and looked forward to the semiannual SOS gatherings. In addition to her husband, Mikel Wofford McDaniel, Beth is survived by her mother Nancy Elam Anthony Morgan, and brother, Oliver Stanhope Anthony III and his wife, Ann Perry Anthony and their sons, Oliver Stanhope Anthony IV and Perry Alexander Anthony. Also surviving is Beth's former husband James Oscar Gant III, and their children, James Oscar Gant IV, Laura Elizabeth Gant Eslick and husband Donald Clayton Eslick, Rebecca Hope Gant Craig and husband Christopher Scott Craig, and their children Isaiah Scott Craig, Jonah Alexander Craig, and Elijah Holton Craig and Lilliah Hope Craig. We are also happy to announce one granddaughter Eslick on the way in April.

A memorial service celebrating Beth's life will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday February 19th at Central United Methodist Church. The family will gather in the fellowship hall afterwards to continue the celebration with the community of people who loved her.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses who cared for her and the staff of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home.
