Ella Jay Thompson

Ella Jay Thompson, 87, of 608 W. Cherokee Street, Blacksburg, SC, entered into eternal rest Monday, August 3, 2015, at Mary Black of Gaffney, Gaffney, SC. Born in Blacksburg, SC, she was the daughter of the late John Barry Turner and Mary Wesson Turner. She worked in the textile industry her entire life, retiring from Milliken after 26 years of dedicated service in the inspection department. After retirement, she was happy seeing to the daily affairs of the kitchen, helping with bookkeeping and helping out wherever she was needed at Munchies Gas N Go. She was a flower garden enthusiast, enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading her Bible, cooking and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by three daughters - Carolyn Strait of Blacksburg, SC, Doris Ehrenkaufer of Scaly Mountain, NC, and Mary Darr(Ted) of Blacksburg, SC; one son - Carl Thompson(Rhonda) of Blacksburg, SC; eight grandchildren - Phyllis Wright Martin(Eddie) of Diamond, MO, Linda Wright Boese of Waldorf, MD, Tammy Wright McGonigal(Bill) of Blacksburg, SC, Cheri Garcia of Rabun Gap, GA, Crystal Darr Miller(Travis) of Blacksburg, SC, Ashley Thompson of Blacksburg, SC, and Adam Thompson of Blacksburg, SC; eleven great-grandchildren - Kyle Martin, Leah Martin, Jessalyn Boese, Brittany Ramey, D.J. McGonigal, Megan Floyd, Jordan Ehrenkaufer, Jerimiah Ehrenkaufer, Luis Garcia, Alexis Miller, and Ava Miller; and two great-great grandchildren - Gary and Clark Martin. She is preceded in death by three sisters - Eunice Wray, Annie May McCurry

and Sarah Turner; five brothers - Carley Turner, John Henry Turner, Walter Turner, Norris Turner and Morris Turner; son-in-law - Charles Strait; and one grandson - Perry Walker.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 4, 2015, from 6-8:00 PM, at White Columns. A Celebration Of Life Service will be held Wednesday, August 5, 2015, 10:00 AM, graveside at Clingman Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Dennis Willoughby officiating. At other times, they will be at the home.

Pallbearers serving are Eddie Martin, Bill McGonigal, Travis Miller, Charles Wray, Randy Turner and Joe Turner.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building Fund, Broad River Baptist Church, Blacksburg, SC.
