Elliot Engel Headlines Shakespeare Project March 24
Cleveland County Library System is sponsoring a community read of The Taming of the Shrew.
The library will host a keynote event, “William before he was Shakespeare,” a talk by Elliot Engel, at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, March 24.
Prepare for a treat.  Professor Engel has been described as the most insightful, personable and entertaining academic keynote speaker to come out of academia in the past 50 years.  The good professor has taught at Duke, NC State, and UNC-Chapel Hill.
Engel has written seven books about Shakespeare as well as such literary giants as Charles Dickens, Mark Twain and Robert Frost.  Maybe you’ve seen his writing in Newsweek or have been charmed by his mini-series on PBS.
Engel combines wit with facts to leave audiences spellbound.  Using anecdotes, analysis, and large doses of humor, he gives new insights into the backgrounds, accomplishments, and lives of the great masters of literature.
An evening with Elliot Engel shouldn’t be missed.
The reading project, by the way is the collaboration of Cleveland County Library plus 7 others in nearby counties to encourage reading by adults.  The Shakespeare pick commemorates what would be the Bard’s 450th birthday.  Free pass-along copies of The Taming of the Shrew are available at the library while supplies last.
