Elphus Cletus Upton, 93, of 5798 Coot Williams Rd, Cherryville, passed away
Friday, September 30, 2011 at Hospice at Wendover in Shelby.
Born on July 8, 1918 in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Albert
Hardin Upton and Suzy Ellen Martin Upton. He had worked as a meat cutter
for Stamey's Store in Fallston for many years and had also worked for Stamey
Funeral Home. He was a charter member of Plainsview Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife,
Lizzie Mae Willis Upton; four brothers, Acie, Ben, Rochel and Dave Upton and
two sisters, Lona Ingle and Esther Costner.
He survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Dorothy Upton of
Cherryville and a daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Hal Wright of
Cherryville; six grandchildren, Shirley Alexander, Penny Newton, Mary
Coffey, Susan Stallings and George and Mark Wright; seven
great-grandchildren, Kasey Riddick, Taylor Alexander, Trey Newton,
Christopher Wright, Sadie Reinhardt, Kelly Willis and Summer Avery; and
Joseph, Lillie Grace and Nathan Riddick.
Visitation, 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Sunday, Stamey Funeral Home, Fallston.
