Ernest Boyd Harris

Ernest Boyd Harris, age 78, of Ellenboro, died Saturday, February 19, 2011 at Autumn Care of Forest City. A native of Rutherford County, he was born January 16, 1933 to the late Reverend Lee Baxter “L.B.” and Ocie Mary McCraw Harris. The work ethic displayed by Mr. Harris shaped the future of his family. His life’s enjoyment was farming, which involved raising pigs and growing cotton. While being a full time farmer, he also worked full time at Esther Mill in Shelby, Cone Mills Avondale Plant, and later owned and operated a rug mill. He was a lifetime member of Campfield Memorial Baptist Church.

   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Ella Ruth Dixon Harris; six sisters, Mary Jo Jolley, Kathleen Murray, Frances Bridges, Jeanette Greene, Lucille Curtis and Marilyn Harris; four brothers, B.J. Harris, Paul L. Harris, Sr., Hurbert Zacorious Harris and Gerald Harris.

   Survivors include, three daughters, Judy Greene and husband Jerry, Nancy Hamrick and husband Fred all of Boiling Springs, Rita Tate and husband Larry of Ellenboro; one son, Ricky Harris of Ellenboro; three brothers, Frank Harris, Earl Harris and Sherril Harris all of Ellenboro; eight grandchildren, Lori Ferebee and husband Jimmy, Adam Harris, Charlie Hamrick and wife Kristen, Steven Tate, Franklin Harris, Michael Tate and wife Jennifer, Phil Tate, and Guy Fagan and wife Jessica; seven great-grandchildren, Laura, J.C., Andrew, Timothy, John David, Abigail Ferebee, and Lucas Harris.

   Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at Campfield Memorial Baptist Church with Reverend Scott Huffman and Reverend Jimmy Ferebee officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
