Esther Griffin Plummer

SHELBY- Esther Griffin Plummer, 99, passed away Wednesday June 17, 2015 at Cleveland Pines. A native of Harris county, TX, she was the daughter of the late John Reese and Anna E. Olin Griffin. She was a strong advocate for women's rights. She was one of the founding members of the Cleveland County Commission for Women and in 1997 she was honored as one of the Distinguished Women of Cleveland County. She was a NC Registered Nurse and a member of the NC Registered Nurse Association, also a member of the Cleveland County Democratic Committee and the NC Daylily Association and a recognized

Judge of Daylily flowers. She was a graduate from the University of Houston gaining her BS degree in Nursing with Honors.

PRECEDED: In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one sister, Betty Ellis; and one brother, Reese Griffin.

SURVIVED: she is survived by three sons, John G. Plummer, James R. Plummer and wife Lynn, and Richard L. Plummer and wife Rebecca Holton, one daughter, Joan Goggio; eight grandchildren, John G. Plummer, Jr. Ginger Lee Martin, Shawn Plummer, Chris Plummer, Beth Canipe, Amanda Masters, Brian Plummer, and Matthew Goggio; 12 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren.

SERVICES: a memorial service will be held Friday, 10:00 am at Hoey United Methodist Church.

CLERGY: Rev. Roy T. Byers.

BURIAL: Burial will be private at a later date.

MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers the family ask that memorials be made to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150.
