Eva Dorothy Melvina Davis Grigg, age 93 of Old Stubbs Rd. passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at her daughter's residence. She was born on April 1, 1923 in Cleveland County to the late Crowder Garmon and Lila Minnie Lovelace Davis. She was a graduate of Bethware High School. Dorothy was a member of Waco Baptist Church where she faithfully served in the nursery and the pre-school Sunday school class for nearly 50 years. She was a very talented seamstress who sewed clothing and quilts for family and friends in the community. Dorothy enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning, farming, and caring for her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence T. Grigg; son, James Grigg; brothers, Franklin, Herschel, Norman, and Glenn Davis; sisters, Rachel Costner, Eunice Horn, and Sylvia Grigg; granddaughter, April Grigg Hewitt; and son-in-law, Ralph Gardner.
Survivors include her son, Everette Grigg and wife, Maria of Cherryville; daughters, Louise Gardner, Evelyn Kiser and husband, Keith, and Carolyn Efird and husband, Neal, all of Cherryville; daughters-in-law, Martha Grigg of Shelby and Sara Grigg of Ridgeway, VA; sisters, Mozelle Justice of Kings Mountain and Fairylee Coffey of Boone; fourteen grandchildren; twenty four great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 10, 2016 at 3:00 PM at Waco Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Harold Fite and Rev. Dr. Eddie Grigg officiating. Music will be provided by Denny Turner and Beth Hamrick. Burial will follow at Capernaum Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Carpenter's Funeral & Cremation Services.
