Eva Gill

Mrs. Eva Maeola Degree Gill, 83, of 155 Camden Court, Shelby, NC, departed this life on Sunday, April 28, 2013, at her residence.  She was born on September 25, 1929 in Cleveland County to the late Maude Mae Black and Jake Degree.

Mrs. Gill attended Cleveland High School.  She enjoyed keeping children and this nurturing and mothering spirit began with her brothers and sister when her mother passed away when she was 16 years of age.  Children had a special fondness for her and she was known as “grandmother” to many.  In addition, she enjoyed cooking, growing plants, gardening and listening to gospel music.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Edward Gill and a sister, Sarah Degree.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Wandra Gill and Sheila Gill both of Shelby, Douglas Gill (Emma) of Alexandria, VA and Sandra Gill also of Shelby; four brothers, Fred Degree, Jr. (Beatrice) of Shelby, Melvin Degree (Lillie) of Reston, VA, Bobby Bishop of Durham, NC and Johnnie Bishop of Miami, FL; seven grandchildren, Temeshia L. Wray, Tanya Gill Johnson and Charmaine Gill all of Shelby, Latonjia Gill and Manning Farley both of Charlotte, NC, Staff Seargent Lacy Eckley (John) of the U.S. Air Force) and Raheen Gill of MD; six great-grandchildren, Joshua Mackey, Tygee Gill, Alandus Card, Jr., Justin Wray, Isabella Martin and T.J. Gill; a brother-in-law, L.D. Corry, Sr. of Shelby and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 5, 2013 at 2:30 PM at Mount Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. M. Lamont Littlejohn officiating.  Burial will take place at Sunset Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:30 PM at the church on Sunday.  Condolences can be expressed online at www.enloes.net.  Enloe Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
