Eva Mae Ussery

Mrs. Eva Mae Ussery, 76, of 169 Camden Court, Shelby, NC took her final flight peacefully and quietly on Tuesday morning, May 21, 2013 at her home.  She was born on Saturday, July 4, 1936 in Lawndale, NC to the late Wade and Minnie Bell Whaley Haynes. She was their first born child.

Mrs. Ussery joined Lawndale First Baptist Church at an early age where she came to know the Lord and accepted Him into her life.  She was a faithful member until her health declined.  She attended and graduated Douglas High School in Lawndale, NC.  She worked in the furniture industry until the mid-80’s when her health caused her retirement from Conover Foam and Fiber in Conover, NC.

She was a loving and devoted wife to the late Grover Cleveland Ussery.  They met and fell in love after being introduced to each other by her younger sister, Barbara.  They married in Gaffney, SC in 1960 and were married for fifty years at the time of his death in 2010.  She also was a loving and a devoted mother of three, grandmother of three and great-grandmother of five.  She loved good food and nice things for her family; and she loved her flowers.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she is preceded in death by her sisters, Barbara Ann Haynes Ussery and Betty Sue Haynes Lawrence Clemmons; three brothers, Calvin Haynes, Charles Leroy Haynes and James Edward Haynes; four sisters-in-law and five brothers-in-law and a great-granddaughter.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory, a daughter and son-in-law, Catherine Denise and Steven Gaston of Lawndale, NC; two sons, Anthony Cleveland Ussery of Kings Mountain, NC and Ronnie Eugene Ussery of the home; two granddaughters, Natasha Ussery Woody (Dominique, Sr.) and Keyoka Gaston; two grandson, Brandon Ussery and Kelvin Vinson; five great-grandchildren; four brothers, Wade Haynes, Jr. and Melvin Gene Haynes both of Hickory, NC and Gerald Thomas Haynes (Gloria) and Richard Alexander Haynes both of Kingstown, NC; five additional sisters-in-law; two additional brothers-in-law; two aunts and a great host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 12:00 Noon at First Baptist Church in Lawndale, NC with Rev. Billy Houze officiating.  Burial will take place at the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 11:30 until 12:00 Noon on Saturday.  Condolences can be expressed online at www.enloes.net.  Enloe Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
