| Mrs. Evelyn Jones Deaton, 82, of Shelby, passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2012 .Evelyn was born June 6, 1929, in Cleveland County and was the daughter of the late Roy and Minnie Holland Jones. Evelyn and her husband, the late Winford R.Deaton, lived in Bristol, TN and Valdese, NC before returning for the last 32 years to the Cleveland County farm where Evelyn was born. She was also preceded in death by her brother Rex Jones and her beloved nephew, Douglas Jones.
A graduate of Appalachian State, she taught home economics at George Hildebrand High School and was a dietician at Virginia Intermont College. She was a member of Drury Dobbins Baptist Church and a former member of First Baptist Church, Valdese, and Grace Baptist, Bristol. She was very involved in the life of her church. Evelyn touched the lives of many through teaching, her kindness and creative talents.
Evelyn was the beloved mother of the late Rob (Ann) Deaton, Rita (Mark) Treleven and Rick (Anna) Deaton. She will forever be remembered by her treasured grandchildren Robbie (Leslie) Deaton, John and David Treleven, Brian (Megan) Deaton, Andrew and Christopher Deaton and great-grandchild Xander Deaton.
Visitation: The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 5, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home, 106 Cherryville Rd., Shelby.
Funeral Service: Wednesday, June 6, 10 a.m., Drury Dobbins Baptist Church, 3607 Dobbins Church Rd., Ellenboro.
Burial: Cleveland Memorial Park, Boiling Springs, NC, following the funeral service.
