Evelyn Lenora Leigh Jackson

Evelyn Lenora Leigh Jackson, age 85, died Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at Transitions Life Care Hospice House in Raleigh. Evelyn was a life-long resident of Shelby and moved to Cary to be near family three years ago. Evelyn was born in Cleveland County on December 27, 1930 to the late Henry Thomas and Luva Hicks Leigh. In addition to her parents, Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Harold Grady Jackson; two brother's Fred Leigh and Raymond Leigh; and a son, John David Jackson. Evelyn spent her career as a Social Worker and retired from Cleveland County DSS; and this led to her becoming very active in volunteer work. She was an avid painter and loved doing needlework, quilting and gardening. Evelyn also sang in the church choir and was a member of Patterson Springs Baptist Church.

Evelyn is survived by her children; two daughters, Barbara Ann Crider and her husband Tom of Clayton, Angela Waldrop and her husband Jeff of Indian Trail; and two sons, Timothy Phillip Jackson and his wife Tina of Fuquay-Varina; and, Harold Grady Jackson, Jr. of Boiling Springs; a brother, Ford Leigh; her grandchildren; Heather Clary and her husband Robert of Shelby; Holly Bodner and her husband Jordan of Cary; Joshua Jackson and his wife Leslie of Pensacola, FL; Jennifer Chastang of Enterprise, AL; Kelly Dipierro of Germany; Justin Jackson of New York; Haley Jackson and Savannah Jackson of Fuquay-Varina; Dylan Waldrop and Phoebe Waldrop of Indian Trail; as well as seven great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel with Rev. Charles Reed officiating. Burial will follow at Patterson Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, October 14, 2016 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory from 6:30pm - 7:30pm.
