Evelyn Mull Lutz, 90, of Lawndale, NC passed away peacefully at home on December 4, 2022. A lifelong resident of the area, Evelyn was born in northern Cleveland County in March 1932 as the only child of Thomas Edison and Lydia Crow Mull. She graduated from Belwood School where she met Marvin Lutz, her husband of more than 61 years.

She loved her sons, her family farm, and her many pets including the family dog, Sam, as well as a variety of stray cats including Lizzy Mae, who passed in mid-November. Evelyn was happy living in the country; she spent her days feeding animals, including deer and hummingbirds, raking sheets of leaves in the fall, and tending to her flower-filled yard including her treasured camellia bushes. Her zest for family history matched her love for the farm as she recounted many stories to friends and relatives about the various wars, family travails, and genealogy. Evelyn was a strong proponent of education, taking her sons to the library each week and supporting them as they both earned Masters degrees. She also greatly enjoyed volunteering at Casar Elementary School as a library assistant, room mother, and teacher's aid for events such as book fairs and clothing drives. She always sought to help the underserved, and will be remembered by the many she visited when sick and by those to whom she provided extra clothing during hard times. Her understated yet talkative personality enabled her to have a diverse set of lifelong friends.

Evelyn is survived by her sons, Marvin Lee (Jackie) Lutz III (of Glenview, IL) and Thomas Luther (Dana) Lutz (of Dallas, TX); her grandchildren, Lydia Ruth Lutz, Charlotte Ann Lutz, Jonathan Evan Lutz, and Morgan Lee Lutz. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Lee Lutz, Jr.

Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, December 27, at 11:00 AM at Zion Hill Baptist Church, where she had a lifelong affiliation, with visitation afterward at the family home.
