First All-County Orchestra To Perform Oct. 30
An all-county orchestra including approximately 50 students from three high schools will perform in concert on Oct. 30 in Malcolm Brown Auditorium. The concert begins at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Participants are from the Burns, Crest and Shelby high school orchestras. John Gordon Ross, conductor of the Western Piedmont Symphony in Hickory, will serve as the conductor/clinician.  Auditions will be held for concert master and all principal positions. Students will rehearse for seven hours on the day of the concert. Orchestra directors are Amanda Colson of Burns; John Champney of Shelby and Peter Strickland of Crest.
