First Cancer Survivor's Day Celebration to be held in Cleveland County

Levine Cancer Institute-Cleveland and the HealthCare Foundation of Cleveland County are partnering to host the first annual Cancer Survivor's Day in Cleveland County. Cancer Survivor's Day is a large-scale, fun-filled, outdoor event that will celebrate local cancer survivors, caregivers, families, and cancer center providers and staff. This event will be Saturday, September 22, 2018 from 11am - 2pm, on site at the hospital located at 201 E. Grover Street, Shelby, NC 28150.
Previously celebrated as the Walk For Hope in Cleveland County, the Walk for Hope has been a staple event for Levine Cancer Institute-Cleveland, and the HealthCare Foundation of Cleveland County, for the past 9 years. Each year, this event has brought awareness to the burden of cancer so many face in Cleveland County, raised money for the local Because We Care Fund, and provided a platform to celebrate cancer survivors while remembering those lost.
The first annual Cancer Survivors Day will hold true to the core components of the Walk For Hope, as our HealthCare Foundation will offer T-Shirt sales, fundraising teams for the Because We Care Fund, and a short ceremony with a butterfly release tribute to those loved ones lost. To date, the Foundation has provided over $250,000 in emergency assistance for more than 400 Cleveland County cancer patients.
As part of the evolution of this event into Cancer Survivors Day, there will be a new location, new activities, food, music, and outdoor fun! The event will have a country-western theme this year with the tag line "Survivors, Saddles, & Spurs". Everyone is encouraged to put on western attire and come out and enjoy the festivities.
The event will feature free lunch, free chair massages, line dancing (performance and lessons with K.U.S. Line Dancers and Always Stepping Line Dancing troop), BINGO (with prizes), a jewelry sale, and other outdoor activities. There will also be a can goods drive for the new Cancer Patient Food Pantry at Levine Cancer Institute - Cleveland. Attendees are asked to bring a donation of canned goods to the event.
