Flossie Lee Costner Meade, 101, of 470 Vic Randall Road, Lawndale, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at her home surrounded by her family.
Born March 27, 1911 in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Ambrose Kelly Costner and Susie Peeler Costner. She was a homemaker and was the oldest living member of St. Paul Baptist Church. Mrs. Meade enjoyed working with her hands. She would spend hours quilting and doing her needle work. She also loved to grow vegetables and flowers in her gardens, which
she would share with family and friends. In her later years she would spend time working her puzzles. The light of her life was her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Meade; son, Kenneth Meade; great-grandson, Grady Morrison; three brothers, Everett Costner, Arthur Costner, and Gerald "Bunny" Costner; and six sisters, Lizzie Costner, Madge Costner, Eula Downs, Elaine Causby, Maybelle Willis and Stella Newton.
Survivors include a son, Dwight Meade and wife, Joyce of Fallston; five daughters, Margaret Brackett and husband, R.A. of Casar, Mary Sue Boyles and husband, Jack of Toluca, Janell Earl and husband, Tryon of Roswell, GA, Patsy Pennington and husband, Don of Casar and Dianne Morrison and husband, Jimmy of Casar; daughter-in-law, Sylvia Meade of Casar; 13 grandchildren;
19 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Maurice Costner of Casar and Flay Costner of Shelby.
The family would like to give special thanks to Susan Wilson, Betty Mellon and the nurses and caregivers of Hospice Cleveland County for their loving care and support during Mrs. Meade's illness.
Visitation: 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM, Thursday at Stamey Funeral Home, Fallston.
Funeral Service: 11:00 AM, Friday at St. Paul Baptist Church, Casar

Burial: St. Paul Baptist Church Cemetery
