Forrest Martin Hite

Forrest Martin Hite, age 101, of Shelby, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2014, at Wendover Hospice House. A native of Huntington, WV, he is the youngest of eight children born to the late Henry Hite and Ona Morris Hite. He was a wonderful provider, husband, father, and family man. His father was the purchaser of the first car sold in Huntington, WV. Mr. Hite worked for C & O Railroad for 47 years until his retirement. He enjoyed wood working and gardening. He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Mr. Hite was also known to his grandchildren and to a lot of other people as “Gramps”, something he was proud of being called.

 

 

 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Helen Shafer Hite; daughter, Rita Gail Hesson; seven siblings.

 

 

 

He is survived by his daughter, Donna Hite Hutchinson (Herb) of Shelby; grandson, Randy T. Hutchinson (Maggie) with whom he made his home in Shelby; two granddaughters, Deborah Lynn Hesson Parkinson (Bob Norwood) of Memphis, TN and Anna Stacey Hesson of Memphis, TN; two great grandchildren, Tiffani Hutchinson Kelly (Kyle) of Nashville, TN and Tony Hutchinson of Shelby; great-great granddaughter, Lillian “Lily” Hutchinson of Shelby.

 

Visitation: 1:00 – 2:00pm Monday, January 6, 2014 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church

 

 

 

Memorial Service: 2:00pm Monday, January 6, 2014 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church.

 

 

 

Memorials: In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1207 W. Dixon Blvd., Shelby, NC 28150 or Life Enrichment Center of Shelby, 110 Life Enrichment Blvd., Shelby, NC 28150.
