Franklyn "Bill" William Oberle Jr.

Franklyn "Bill" William Oberle Jr., 78, died Thursday, August 12, 2021 at his home.

Born in Plainfield, NJ, he was the son of the late Franklyn William Oberle Sr. and Elda Palmer Oberle. Bill faithfully served in the Army during the Vietnam War, and he was proud of his county.

His lifetime passion was working as an OTR(Over The Road) Professional Driver, and he also trained new drivers. For many years he built model n-scale train sets, until his health declined. He was a big guy with a big heart, always helping others, and loved his two kitties, Sammy and Sassy. The family would like to thank everyone with hospice for their love and care.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Frank and Marjorie Oberle and Judson and Alberta Palmer, all from Syracuse; and brother, Judson Bingham Oberle.

He is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Annie Elrod-Oberle of the home; daughter, Shellby Lee Guffey and husband Joey of Shelby; sons, William Perin Oberle and wife Chelsea of GA, Shawn Michael Lee and wife Rebecca of Conover and Darin James Lee and wife Talitha of Granite Falls; brother, Robert Bruce Oberle and wife Charlene of Huntersville; 15 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and lifelong friends, Don Scull of Gastonia and Ward "JR" Vance of Kings Mountain.

A celebration of Bill's life will be held 3pm, Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel, with SGT. Les Ashby, of the Salvation Army and John Leidy officiating. The family will receive friends 30 minute prior to the service. The two flags represented during the service are the American Flag and The Salvation Army "Promoted to Glory flag.
