Gene was born in Gaston County, NC to Franklin Eugene Tyner, Sr. and Kay Bynum Lance.  He worked in construction as a back hoe operator for Appling-Boring for over 20 years and most recently for Double “R” Utilities in Gaffney. He loved his work, the outdoors and especially his family.

     Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Pamela Tyner; one son, Johnathan Buchanan of Gastonia; two daughters, Faith Buchanan and Christie Tyner both of Gastonia; one step-son, Matthew Richardson and wife, Stacy of Bostic; his step-mother, Nancy S. Tyner of Knoxville, TN; his step-father, Doug Lance of Cramerton, NC; one brother, Juwan Tyner of Shelby; three sisters, Tammy Tyner of Forest City, Cindy Cook and husband, Jeff of Knoxville, TN and Lynn Cope and husband, Chris of Gastonia.  He is also survived by two grandchildren, Devon Richardson and Jordan Richardson and several nieces and nephews.

      Memorial services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2011 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel.  The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
