Indian Land -- Mr. George B. Blackmon went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 18, 2016. George was born March 31, 1931 to parents James Blackmon Sr. and Gertrude Love Blackmon of Charlotte, NC. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Pete Blackmon. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Barbara McDowell Blackmon, daughter Cindy Coley of Indian Land, SC, son Pat Blackmon (wife Tammy) of Gaffney, SC, brother Don Blackmon (wife Micki) of Charlotte, NC. He was the grandfather of four grandchildren, Katey Coley Rallings (David) of Lancaster, SC, Joseph Coley of Indian Land, SC, and Joshua and Brooke Blackmon of Gaffney, SC, great-granddaughters Claire and Lainey Paige Rallings, and numerous nephews and nieces.

He attended Central High School Class of 1949. He served in the Army National Guard and attained the rank of Master Sergeant. He received special training in the Army National Guard at Fort McPherson, GA in Atlanta, GA, Fort Jackson, SC and Anniston, AL. Mr. Blackmon worked for RH Bouligny Sales and Charlotte Action Display. He coached T-ball and little league teams in Pineville, NC. He loved sports, fishing, deer hunting, and was an avid bird watcher. George was a member of Greater Life Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC.

Receiving of friends will be at Greater Life Baptist Church, 17025 Lancaster Highway, Charlotte, NC from 6-8pm on Friday, April 22nd and the funeral will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 23rd at the church. Interment will follow at Greater Life Baptist Church Cemetery.
