| George William Moore, age 86, of Gastonia, formerly of Hendersonville, NC and Hillsville, VA died May 8, 2013 at Kings Mountain Hospice House. He was born in Gaston County, January 22, 1927 a son of the late Grady and Kathelyn Stiles Moore. George was a life insurance agent with Southern Life, worked at Wix Filters and was co-owner of Flowers and More in Cherryville, was a US Army WWII and Korean War Veteran, a former member of the Cherryville Chamber of Commerce and was a member of Chapel Grove Baptist Church in Gastonia.
Survivors include his wife of 28 years Shirley Jean Alderman Moore of the home, two sons Dr. Dan S. Moore and fiancée Lisa Patty of Brevard NC, Gary Lee Moore and fiancée Cindy Jones of Hendersonville, a daughter Nell Rose Sand Alwin of Augsburg, Germany, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, two brothers Charles Cletus Moore and wife Mildred of Gastonia, Bobby Gene Moore and wife Margaret of Gastonia, a sister Betty Moore Alexander and husband Dwight of Kings Mountain.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 10, 2013 at 2:30 PM at Carpenter’s Funeral and Cremation Service Chapel with Rev. Roger Overton officiating. Burial will be May 11, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Gardner Memorial Cemetery in Hillsville VA. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:15 at the funeral home prior to the service Friday.
