Gerald Ray "Chick" Neill, age 77, passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Carolina Healthcare Systems- Kings Mountain. He was born May 21, 1939 in Cleveland County to the late Marcus Zone and Mattie Earl Moore Neal. Chick worked as a heavy equipment operator for John Jenkins and was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by siblings, Ruby Eaker, Thomas 'Babe' Neal, Buford Neil, Charles Neal and Giles Neill.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sue Goins Neill and daughters, Susan Pearson and Rita McGinnis (Jim) both of Cherryville; grandchildren, Audie McGinnis (Bethann), Zane McGinnis and Kelly Harris (Dan); great-grandchildren, Dane, Sadie and Luke Harris and brother, Johnny Neal and wife, Terri.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 17, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Carpenter-Porter Funeral & Cremation Services with Rev. Bobby Holtsclaw officiating. Burial will follow in Shady Grove Baptist Church cemetery. Family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home and other times at the home.
