CLIFFSIDE - Gilbert Barnes, 94, of Cliffside, died on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Willow Ridge Rehab Center of Rutherfordton. A native of Cleveland County, he was born on August 16, 1920, a son of the late Benjamin Wafford and Lillie Foster Barnes. He was retired from Cone Mills Corporation - Cliffside Plant and was a member of Camps Creek Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ezma Winnie Jolley Barnes; one son, Wayne Barnes. He is survived by two daughters, Betty Norville and husband Vance of Cliffside and Robin Moore and Eric of Cliffside; one sister, Joyce Norman of Cliffside; 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the graveside at 2:00pm on Saturday, January 03, 2015 at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Joey Cantrell officiating. The family will greet friends and family following the service at the cemetery.
