Glee Edwin Bridges, age 88, resident of Kings Mountain, NC died January 9, 2015 at Kings Mountain Hospice House. He was born in Kings Mountain, NC to the late Glee A. Bridges and Addie H. Bridges.  He was  preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Martha P. Bridges and brother Nelson Bridges.   Glee attended the University of North Carolina, NC State and Cornell University prior to being commissioned in the United States Navy with the rank of Ensign.  He served in both the United States Navy and the Naval Reserve for 31 years, retiring in 1974 with the rank of Captain.  Glee and brother JC Bridges bought Bridges Hardware from their father and ran the business for over 40 years until retiring in 1988.  Glee was devoted to Kings Mountain, serving for 45 years on the Board of Directors of Kings Mountain Savings and Loan (now Bank of the Ozarks), a loyal member of the Kiwanis Club for over 60 years and a long time active member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church. Glee loved woodworking, gardening, and hunting in Oakland Plantation in Eastern, NC.  The family wishes to express their gratitude to the doctors and staff of the Kings Mountain Hospice House.  Their care of our father was above and beyond the call of duty.

NC; Sister: Jean Schenk, Chetek, WI; Sons: Ed Bridges and wife Andrea, Georgetown, TX; Tom Bridges and wife Sandy, Jackson, TN; Daughter: Lynne Presley and husband Steve, Hendersonville, NC; 6 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren.

MEMORIAL SERVICE:  St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, Tuesday, January 13, 2015   11:00 A.M. 

VISITATION: Immediately following the service at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church.

INTERMENT: Mountain Rest Cemetery, Kings Mountain, North Carolina
