Glenn McKinley Parker

Glenn McKinley Parker, 86, 159 Golden Valley Road, Casar, NC, passed away on Friday, January 3, 2014, at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Ashville.

He was born on April 1, 1927, in Cleveland County, NC, to the late Avery   Parker and Vicey Suttle Parker.  He retired form OE Ford and Lutz Yelton Tractor Company in the parts departments.  He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Casar Masonic Lodge #579 where he served as past master, and the DAV Chapter 34 of Hickory.  He also served in the Navy during World War II stationed in the South Pacific, Saipan and Guam, in the 12th Sea Bee Battalion.  Mr. Parker also served in the Army during the Korean Conflict in the 311th Station Hospital Unit out of Fort Bragg, NC.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death an infant son, Michael Parker and three brothers, James Parker, Alvin Parker and Ralph Parker.

Mr. Parker is survived by his wife of 66 years. Naomi Short Parker; daughter, Raina Shaluly and husband Joe of Greenville, SC; two sons, Kevin Parker and wife Sonya of Casar and Terry Parker of Casar; two brothers, Authur Parker of Casar and Wade Parker of Florida; four sisters, Margie Black of Albemarle, Marie Brackett of Belwood, Annie Veril Stephenson of Bryson City, and Shirley Pearson of Morganton; seven grandchildren, Sabrina Gray, Brian Parker, Kimberly Guffey, Johnathan Parker, Jamiee Bumgardner, Nicole Waters, and Kelly Parker; 15 great-grandchildren, Skyler, Brianna, Ashton, Kadence, Zane, Mason, Keirstin, Avery, Amanda, Weston, Nickolas, Makayla, Abigail, Ethan, and Dawson; and great-great-granddaughter, Natalie.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Monday, January 6, 2014 at Stamey Funeral Home, Fallston.

Funeral: The funeral will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Casar.  The body will be placed in the church thirty minutes before the service.

Burial: Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.

Memorials:  In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, PO Box 326, Casar, NC 28020.
