Glenn Wood Childers
Glenn Wood Childers, 85, 312 Ninety Nine Island Road, Blacksburg, SC, went home to be with the Lord April 18, 2016, at Testa Family Hospice House, Kings Mountain, NC. Born in Cherokee County, he is the husband of Joyce Moss Childers and a son of the late Torrence Jefferson and Blanche Parker Childers. He was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church where he served in various positions - deacon, S S class treasurer, and the baptismal committee. He served in the US Army in the early 1950's and was a member of Blacksburg Masonic Lodge #202. He was retired from Hamrick's.
Left to cherish his memory in addition to Joyce, his wife of 60 years, are his son, Alvin Glenn Childers, of the home; his daughter, Carol Childers Wilson, of Blacksburg; his dearly beloved grandson, Nolan Torrence Wilson, of Blacksburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers- Grady, Basil and Lester Childers; and his sisters - Ione C. Alexander and Iris C. Jones.
The family will receive friends Thursday, April 21, 2016, from 1:30 - 3:00 PM, at Hopewell Baptist Church. A Celebration Of Life Service will begin at 3:00 PM, with Rev. Eddie Bolin officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow in the church cemetery. At other times, the family will be at the home.
Nephews will serve as active pallbearers. The Ed Moss SS Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hopewell Baptist Church Building Fund or the Maintenance Fund, 511 Old Chester Road, Blacksburg, SC, 29702.
