GSCT presents “The Crucible”
Greater Shelby Community Theatre presents the classic drama “The Crucible” by legendary playwright Arthur Miller. Performances are July 12-14 and July 19-21 at Keeter Auditorium on the campus of Cleveland Community College.  Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30pm.  Sunday performances are at 2:30pm. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for seniors/students.
On the surface, the play tells the story of the Salem Witch trials in 1692. But this allegorical tale was Miller’s reaction to US citizens being falsely accused of being communists in the era of McCarthyism. The play won a Tony in 1953 and has become a classic because the story asks us to examine the timeless nature of power and personal and community responsibility.
The drama stars Jonathan Foust (Crest High drama teacher) as John Proctor with Jenni Hassler as Elizabeth, his wife. Dan Treharne (Kings Mtn. High drama teacher) plays Reverend Hale, a man caught between the truth and the power of the court. Area high school students Spencer Cain, Kayla Evans, Taylor Rippy, Megan Sherman, and Maddie Spurling play the scheming teens that fuel the story’s life and death crisis.
