Hale Thomas Bryson

Hale Thomas Bryson, 85, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, December 9, 2013, at home surrounded by his loving family.  Born in Jackson County on November 18, 1928, he was the son of the late A. F. and Hattie Raby Bryson.  Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Bryson and a beloved sister, Anna Lee Hooper.  Hale was a dedicated educator for 43 years who cared deeply about the children of Cleveland County.  He took pride in being a pioneer of technology in the Cleveland County Schools.  He was a proud graduate of Western Carolina University where he received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree.  He was principal of Shelby Junior High for 15 years and retired as the associate superintendent of Shelby City Schools.  Hale was an active member of First Baptist Church where he taught the Hale T. Bryson Sunday School class for over 43 years.  He was a member of the Lions Club and honored to receive the Melvin Jones Fellow Award.

 

Mr. Bryson is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Freida Brown Bryson; children, Tommy Bryson and wife Linus of Key West, Fl, Jane Bryson Blake and husband Gary of Shelby, Jim Bryson and wife Benita of Charlotte; grandchildren, Alex Blake, Melissa Hobart-Beaumari, Daniel Bryson, Vanessa Bryson; special niece, Laura Huneycutt and many other loving nieces and nephews. 

 

The family would like to extend a special “thank you” to the Hospice staff and friends who made smooth the road on his final journey here on Earth. Also special thanks to Helping Hands Staff members Natosha, Ana and Angel for their devotion and loving care.

 

A celebration of life service will be at 11:00am on Friday, December 13, 2013 at the Webb Chapel of First Baptist Church. Rev. Tony Tench will be officiating.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the ladies parlor of the church.  Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150 or Shelby High School Scholarship Fund, 230 East Dixon Blvd, Shelby NC 28152.
