Harlan Dean Howell
 Mr. Harlan Dean Howell, 68, of 1102 St. Mark’s Church Road,  passed away Monday, October 31, 2011 at Kings Mountain Hospice.

Harlan was born in Cleveland County, NC on May 6, 1943 a son of the late Thomas Dean Howell and Willie Sue Engle Howell of Cherryville.  Harlan was retired as a mail carrier for the Cherryville Post Office for 38 years.  He was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church of Cherryville where he was a member of the church choir, past president of Lutheran Men in Mission and the church council and also served in various other capacities in the church.  Harlan was a former Cherryville American Legion Baseball player and former coach for Cherryville Little League Baseball.  He served in the US Army as a military policeman during Vietnam and was a member of the Cherryville American Legion Post 100.

In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife of 47 years, Kay Carpenter Howell of the home two sons Richard Howell of Lincolnton and Sidney Howell and wife Brittany of Stallings; five brothers, Gerald Howell and Steve Howell of Cherryville, Darrell Howell of Waco, Garry Howell and        Randy Howell of Shelby and a sister Kim Howell Davis of Troutman; two grandchildren, Sophie and Olivia Howell.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 from 6:00 until 8:00p.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Cherryville and other times at the home.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at 3:00p.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Malcolm Lurch and Pastor Dale Pederson officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors provided by Cherryville American Legion Post 100.
