Harold Lail

Harold Lail age 81 died on Dec 16th at Hospice surrounded by his loving and devoted family. Born in Cleveland County on June 15th 1940, He was the son of the late Raymond Lail and Vertie Wortman Lail. Harold is survived by his wife and caregiver of 62 years, Polly Crotts Lail, his daughter Christy Lail Cook who will forever be his Princess. Two grandsons who brought him so much joy, Isaac Cook an accomplished musician who graduated with honors from Gardner Webb University. Isaac's wife Emilee whom Harold loved and admired her Christian witness. Andrew Lail Cook on making Eagle Scout at the age of 16. At Andrew's Eagle celebration, he presented Harold and Polly with the mentor pins, which they wore proudly. Great granddaughter Isabella McDaniel who was the apple of his eye. Step granddaughter Brandy Cook who treasures the memory of Harold sharing with her the plan of salvation at the age of 3 years old. A sister Linda Canipe, nephew, Tommy Hunt and wife Karren, great niece Anna and husband Keliko Labuanan, and their sons Kai and Koa. Great niece Sarah Hunt.

Harold lived his life serving God and being a role model for his family. Known to the grandchildren as Pop, he was actively involved in every aspect of their lives, instilling in them a love for God. In the good times and the bad times, he never wavered from his faith. He was a constant reminder that the Lord was always with us. He was always at every event, every performance, and every ball game the children were involved in.

Harold was a devoted Christian, he and his family attended Bethel Baptist Church for 34 years where he served in the position of Deacon, Sunday school teacher, and a faithful leader of the church visitation. Harold witnessed to many people on his job and in the community telling his story of how God changed his life, it was his witness that led many people to Christ. He decided later in life to move back to his boyhood home church, Casar United Methodist, Casar NC.

Harold retired from Burlington Industries after 30 years of service. He was general manager over the inspection, burling, mending, and packing departments. Our family thanks his dedicated secretary Helen Burgess for the many prayers, phone calls, and visits during his illness. He was a member of the Gideons International, the Toastmaster Club, and River Bend Golf Course. Golfing was his Hobby and in 2002 he won the senior 35th annual Ernest Spangler Memorial Shrine golf championship.

Our family would like to thank Shelby Medical Associates, Dr. Mike Ribadeneyra MD, his staff Beth, Amy, Brandy, and Alisha for the countless hours they spent helping our family care for Harold. Also for all the Hospice personnel, Hospice nurse Cristal Barlow RN, BSN, CHPN, for Donna McLaughlin, CNAI certified Nursing Assistant.

Celebration of Life will be held 2:00pm Monday December 20, 2021 at Casar United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Lovelace officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
