Hattie Clark Thurkill, age 88, of 519 Gold Street died on Friday October 25, 2013 at Shelby Manor. Born in Cleveland County on April 14, 1925, she was the daughter of Joseph Pinkney and Minnie Blanche Clark. She attended Waco School. Hattie was a home maker and worked at Dover Textiles as a Lab Technician for 35 years before she retired. She was a member of Dover Baptist Church since 1947. She taught Sunday school in the Primary department for many years, was active in the WMU, and was a member of the Dorcus Esther Sunday School Class. Hattie was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Floyd Thurkill; four sisters Martha Clark, Elmener Clark, Pearley Mae Clark, and Gertrude Green; and two brothers Clarence Clark and Bill Clark.
Hattie is survived by her three sons; Tom Thurkill and wife Charlotte of Shelby; Steve Thurkill and wife Jan of Rocky Mount; Joe Turkhill and wife Robin of Shelby, grandchildren Christina Nichols and husband Daniel of Shelby ; Jennifer Baez and husband David of Shelby , Allison Thurkill of Raleigh, Ben Thurkill and wife Jenna of Raleigh; Bradley Thurkill of Shelby: four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held on Monday October 28, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Dover Baptist Church with Dr. Bulo Price and Reverend Jerry Rumfelt officiating. The family will receive friends an hour before the service from 1:00pm until 2:00pm in the sanctuary. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family would like to thank the staff at Shelby Manor and Hospice for all the wonderful care they gave to Mrs. Thurkill during her illness and stay.
