Hazel Hill Godfrey

Hazel Hill Godfrey, age 80, of Forest City, died Thursday, June 11, 2015 at her residence.

Born November 25, 1934 in McDowell County, she was a daughter of the late Hicks Hill and Velma Marlowe Hill. Hazel worked most her life as a seamstress and retired after twenty-seven years of service for Tanner Company. She was also an active member of Riverside Baptist Church where she was currently the church secretary. Hazel was a member of the Eastern Star Hollis Lodge and was also a part of the Foothills Choir. She enjoyed sewing and flower gardening.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of forty-eight years, D.G. Godfrey and an infant son.

Survivors include daughter, Angela Schronce and husband, Keith of Claremont, NC; four sons, Billy Gragg and wife, MaryEllen of Bonaire, GA, Robert Gragg and wife, Nell of Forest City, Mark Gragg and wife, Pam of Ellenboro and Frank Godfrey also of Forest City; three sisters, Nancy Buckner and husband, Floyd of Mooresboro, Bertie Wilson, Myra Moore and husband, Roger all of Marion; one brother, Phillip Searcy, Jr. also of Marion; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Guest and husband, Carol of Forest City and Sudie Joy of Sumnter, SC. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, Michael, Rachel and Tyler Gragg, Michael Ruff, Nichole and Rodney Gragg, Shayana Koone, David Ridings, Jason Selph, Nathan and Daniel Schronce; fifteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at eleven o'clock on Monday, June 15, 2015 at Floyd's Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Ted Blankenship officiating. Interment followed in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery. The family received friends from seven until nine o'clock on Sunday at the funeral home.
