Helen Elizabeth Beck Miller, 96, formerly of Cliffside passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at Terrace Ridge Assisted Living in Gastonia.
She was born April 30, 1920 in Spencer, NC, the wife of the late Hilton Miller and daughter of the Late John Thomas Beck and Georgia Moore Beck. She was a member of Cliffside Baptist Church, where she has served in many different capacities and a member of the Woodmen of the World. Mrs. Miller had been the Secretary/Lunchroom Supervisor at Cliffside Elementary School and had been very active in the Duke Village and Cliffside Communities. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, traveling and sewing. Devoted to her church and family, she was a gracious southern lady.
Survivors include a son, Richard Miller and wife, Martha of Denver, CO; three daughters, Becky Dedmond and husband, Gene (predeceased) of Heathsville, VA, Kay Dobbins and husband, Bob of Greenville, SC and Myra Stewart and husband, Joe of Bessemer City, NC: three sisters, Irene Waller of Atlanta, GA, Ruth Rickard of Spencer, NC and Laura Barrier of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Cris Dedmond and wife, Britney, Elizabeth Nurnberger and husband, Todd, Greg Dobbins and wife, Jana, Kristi Brown and husband, Paul, Jenni Farmer and husband, Drew, Clark Stewart and wife, Sarah, Catherine Stewart and John Beck Stewart (predeceased); ten great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 4 PM Saturday, September 24th at Cliffside Baptist Church with Pastor Michael Elgin officiating. Burial will follow in Wesley Chapel Cemetery, 340 Hogan Rd., Harris, NC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
