Henry Carlisle Cloninger, Sr., 95, of 770 Holly Ridge Road Blacksburg, SC, went home to be with the Lord October 14, 2013, at Peachtree Centre, Gaffney, SC. He is the husband of Doris Rippy Cloninger of the home. Born in Claremont, NC, he was a son of the late Henry A. and Julia Estelle Busbee Cloninger.
Mr. Cloninger was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Claremont, NC, for seventy years, and more recently, a member of Mt. Paran Baptist Church in Blacksburg, SC. He retired from Laxton Construction, Charlotte, NC, in 1983. He proudly served in the US Army Artillery and the US Coast Guard. He was also proud of being a member of the 1936 Claremont High School Championship Basketball Team. He also enjoyed his antique car.
In addition to his loving wife of 71 years, Doris, he is survived by their son, H. Carlisle Cloninger, Jr. of Gastonia, NC, and their grandson, Greg Pounders, of Lakeland, FL. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by their daughter, Barbara Jean Pounders; two brothers - Kermit Cloninger and James Cloninger; and two sisters - Rachel Smith and Mary Boggs.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 16, 2013, from 1-2:00 PM, at Mt. Paran Baptist Church. A Celebration Of Life Service will begin at 2:00 PM, with Rev. Jay Clever officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. At other times, they will be at the home.
