Hicel “Fred” McKinney

Hicel “Fred” McKinney, age 85, a resident of White Oak Manor, Shelby, NC, died Sunday, March 10, 2013 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born in Mercer County near High Bridge, Kentucky on June 2, 1927, son of the late Ira and Allie Harris McKinney. He was an Navy veteran in both theatres of WWII and worked in the Charlotte and surrounding areas as a master carpenter since 1949. He was preceded in death by his son Alan Fred McKinney and all of his siblings except his sister Hester Hayslett of Burgin, Kentucky. He is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law Karen and Michael Hutson of Kings Mountain, grandson Scott Hutson and wife Arjanette of Mt. Holly and two great-grandaughters, Reagan and Lera. The family would like to thank all of his caregivers over these many years, especially Leigh Howell.
