Hilda Ivester Poole

Mrs. Hilda Ivester Poole passed away on January 1, 2014 at Elizabeth House in Hendersonville, NC. She was a resident of Shelby, North Carolina and most recently a resident at The Bridge at Lake Pointe Landing in Hendersonville, NC. She was preceded in death by parents Overman and Ethel Ivester and by Forrest Poole, her husband of 61 years. She was an active and lifetime member of LaFayette Street United Methodist Church where she was the church organist for eight years, an alto in the church quartet led by her father, and a lifetime member of the chancel choir. She served in leadership roles on numerous committees to help facilitate the work of her beloved church family.

 

Mrs. Poole was a graduate of Shelby High School and served as a Candy Striper at Cleveland Memorial Hospital. She was proud to serve as a Navy wife while stationed with her husband in Beaufort, S.C. Mrs. Poole was a loyal employee of Lily Mill Company (later Belding Lily) for 40 years. She began her career with Lily Mill as a secretary in the office and spent the next years as an administrative assistant and then Personnel Director. When Belding Lily closed, she served as the Office Administrator at Metropolitan Insurance in Shelby.

 

She is survived by son, Clark Poole and his wife, Theresa, of Rutherfordton, son, Bryant Poole, of Robbinsville, son Keith Poole and wife, Barbara, of Hendersonville, and daughter, Tierney Poole Fairchild and husband, Jim of Harrisburg. She is also survived by grandchildren, Bill Poole, Allyson Hutchby, Laura Moore, Christian Poole, Ian Poole, and Maegan and Macey Fairchild as well as great grandchildren, William Hutchby, and Gavin and Kaitlyn Moore.

 

Mrs. Poole will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother whose greatest treasure was her family. Her happiest times were family vacations, holidays, and time spent with her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Poole was a wonderful mother who worked many long hours, provided countless family feasts, and spent many hours at her sewing machine creating costumes, recital and prom dresses, and anything that was needed for church events. She always

put her family first and instilled in them, through example and involvement, a sense of commitment to church and family. Mrs. Poole was the room mother, PTA mom, band parent, and supporter of every aspect of her children’s lives.

 

The family would like to thank the staff at Elizabeth House for their care during Mrs. Poole’s illness.

 

Arrangements are being handled by Cleveland Funeral Services Inc. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 11:30 a.m at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 10:30 a.m.  Rev. Arthur Holland will be officiating.

 

Burial to follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to LaFayette Street United Methodist Church at 1420 S. LaFayette St., Shelby, NC 28052 or Hospice of Henderson County at 571 S. Allen Rd., Flat Rock, NC 28731.
