Horace Luther Laning, II, age 81, died Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Hospice Wendover. Born in Trenton, NJ, on May 27, 1936, he was the son of the late Horace Luther and Katherine Rebecca Laning. Horace was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. He served in the United States Navy for four years and received a medal for Good Conduct. Horace retired from Turner Trucking where he was a long haul driver for a number of years. He enjoyed visiting people and spending time with friends and family. In addition to his parents, Horace is preceded in death by his wife, Lynn St. George Laning; a brother John Laning.

Horace is survived by a daughter, Beth Laning Anderson and husband, Todd of Shelby; a son, David Laning and wife Amybeth of Raleigh; six grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Memorial service with Military Honors will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, December 10, 2017 in the chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Haywood Morrison officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
