Howard Greene age 93 died Sunday June 2, 2013 at Wendover Hospice. Born in Rutherford County he was the son of the late Grover B. and Essie Mae McEntire. Mr. Greene was a US Army veteran serving in WWII. He took part in the D Day invasion and landed on the Omaha Beach in Normandy. He received four bronze service stars, Good Conduct Medal and the America Defense Service Medal. He enjoyed playing the guitar and played it for over 70 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and working with wood. He was the owner of the Shelby Saw Service. In addition to his family he is preceded in death by a son, Dean Greene, 4 sisters, and 2 brothers.

Mr. Greene is survived by his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth "Lib" Greene; three daughters, Connie Cherka and husband Preston of Shelby, Sandra Jordan of Gastonia, and Harriett Wilson and husband Don of Shelby; a brother,, Ralph Greene and wife Lucille of Shelby; 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.

Memorial service will be held on Thursday June 6,2013 at 4:00pm in the Chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service and other times at the home of Connie and Preston Cherka, 2252 Taylor Road Shelby.
